Chalice Lighting:

We light our chalice as a symbol of the Light within usand the life that flows through the world around us.It is our beacon as we search for truth. It is the warmth in our hearts for love. And it is the energy that propels us to action.May we be kindled by our time together.

Opening Hymn:      O Mighty God, When I Survey in Wonder NCH 35

Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship:

We are gathered to worship our God.Send your Spirit upon us.We come from many places, with many burdens.Send you Spirit upon us.We turn our hearts to you, O God.Send your Spirit upon us, and make us your beloved family.

Prayer of Invocation

First Sacred Reading:    Mark 7: 31-37

31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis. 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him.

33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.

36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

We give you but your own, what e'er the gift may be; All that we have is yours alone, we give it gratefully

Second Sacred Reading:     Isaiah: 35-4-7

Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you.” Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be opened; then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pool and the thirsty ground springs of water; the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp; the grass shall become reeds and rushes.
